The voter base in Tamil Nadu has seen a significant rise ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, with the Election Commission of India announcing the addition of 6,35,911 new voters to the electoral roll.

With this latest update, the total number of voters in Tamil Nadu has increased to 5,73,43,291, marking a strong growth in democratic participation across the state.

According to official data, the updated voter distribution includes 2,80,30,658 male voters, 2,93,04,905 female voters, and 7,728 third-gender voters. The increase reflects improved voter awareness and successful enrollment efforts across urban and rural regions.

Earlier, the final electoral roll released on February 23 had recorded a total of 5,67,07,380 voters. The inclusion of over 6.35 lakh new voters within a short period highlights the Election Commission’s efforts to ensure that every eligible citizen gets an opportunity to participate in the democratic process.

The Election Commission of India had allowed voter registration until April 6, coinciding with the last date for filing nominations. This move enabled thousands of eligible citizens to get their names added to the voter list before the elections.

Tamil Nadu is set to go to polls in a single phase on April 23, 2026, with vote counting scheduled for May 4, 2026. The rise in voter numbers is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the election outcome, as higher participation often leads to more competitive and representative results.

Overall, the increase in voter count to 5.73 crore underscores the strength of democracy in Tamil Nadu and signals a highly engaged electorate ahead of the crucial Assembly elections.
