Tamil Nadu Expands CM Breakfast Scheme to Classes 6-8 Students from September 17

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has announced the extension of the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme to students of Classes 6 to 8 from September 17, coinciding with the birth anniversary of social reformer Periyar E.V. Ramasamy.

The announcement was made after a review meeting of the Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department at the Secretariat. The expansion is expected to benefit thousands of government school students by improving nutrition, classroom attendance, and learning outcomes.

During the meeting, officials briefed the Chief Minister on welfare schemes for children, women, transgender persons, and senior citizens. Discussions also covered anganwadi services, child care institutions, nutrition centres, adoption agencies, One-Stop Centres for women, and child welfare programmes across the State.

Vijay directed officials to ensure timely delivery of welfare benefits, strengthen child protection systems, and intensify awareness campaigns against substance abuse among children. He also reviewed proposals under the government`s ‘Vettri Tamizhagam’ vision document and future welfare funding plans.
