The Union Government has announced plans to develop a new national highway corridor that will reduce the travel distance between Chennai and New Delhi by nearly 320 kilometres. The announcement was made by Nitin Gadkari during a recent session of Parliament.

The proposed highway project will improve connectivity between northern and southern parts of India and is expected to significantly reduce travel time for both passenger vehicles and freight transport. The corridor is part of the central government’s broader plan to strengthen the national highway network and boost economic growth through better road infrastructure.

According to officials, the new route will begin near Surat and extend towards Kurnool, creating a key north–south corridor that connects several major cities across India.

Once completed, the highway will provide improved connectivity for major cities including Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi, and Kanyakumari. The project is expected to ease traffic congestion on existing highways while making long-distance travel faster and more efficient.

Experts believe the new national highway corridor will not only reduce the distance between Delhi and Chennai but also strengthen logistics, trade, and interstate connectivity across multiple regions in India.
