Tamil Nadu Announces New Health Insurance Scheme 2026 for Government Employees and Pensioners

The Tamil Nadu Government has announced the New Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) 2026 for government employees, pensioners, and their eligible family members. The scheme will be implemented for a period of five years, from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2031.

Under the scheme, beneficiaries can receive cashless medical treatment of up to ₹7.5 lakh at empanelled government and private hospitals. In addition, coverage of up to ₹12 lakh is available for the treatment of 46 critical illnesses. Government employees are also eligible for an additional ₹15 lakh through the Corpus Fund, increasing the total medical assistance to ₹27 lakh.

The NHIS 2026 covers 2,992 medical and surgical procedures and is available at 1,535 empanelled hospitals across Tamil Nadu. The scheme has also been extended to include sanitation workers, Anganwadi staff, nutritious meal workers, and other eligible beneficiaries.
