Tamil Nadu Weather Today: IMD Forecasts Rain with Thunderstorms in Chennai and 11 Districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across several parts of Tamil Nadu on June 26, 2026. According to the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre, a trough extending along the Tamil Nadu coastal region at an altitude of around 0.9 km is influencing the current weather conditions.

The weather department has predicted light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupathur, and Kallakurichi districts. Similar weather conditions are also expected in Puducherry and Karaikal.

During thunderstorms, gusty winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph are likely at isolated places. Residents are advised to remain cautious, especially while travelling, and to follow official weather advisories.
