Excess water being discharged from 4 lakes in Thiruvallur District

With the recent incessant heavy rains, Chembarambakkam lake got filled to the brim to the fullest capacity. Due to heavy rains, water from the lake was discharged at 30000 cft per second on 1st & 2nd December. This was gradually reduced. Yesterday (Tuesday, 8th December), the lake received water at 150 cft and the discharge was being done at 200 cft per second.
In this scenario and with the heavy rains starting again since yesterday night, discharge from the lake is at 750 cft per second. PWD officials explained that with continuing rains, discharge rate may be increased up to 1000 to 1500 cft per second.
