The India Meteorological Department has stated that Tamil Nadu has recorded a 33% deficit in summer monsoon rainfall so far this season, highlighting concerns over uneven weather patterns across the state.

However, in contrast to the overall shortfall, Chennai has received 35% more rainfall than normal, indicating a significant variation in rainfall distribution within the state.

According to meteorological data, while several districts in Tamil Nadu continue to experience below-average rainfall, Chennai has benefited from relatively frequent showers in recent weeks. This imbalance reflects localized weather conditions influenced by atmospheric instability and regional climatic factors.

The rainfall deficit in Tamil Nadu may have an impact on water resources, agriculture, and groundwater levels, especially in districts that depend heavily on seasonal rains. Meanwhile, the excess rainfall in Chennai could lead to occasional waterlogging and traffic congestion in low-lying areas during sudden downpours.

Weather experts suggest that such uneven rainfall patterns are not uncommon during the summer monsoon period and may continue in the coming weeks depending on evolving weather systems.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, as further rainfall in the coming days will play a crucial role in balancing the seasonal deficit across Tamil Nadu.
