Ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections on April 23, the India Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert indicating a rise in temperature across Tamil Nadu. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre Chennai, maximum temperatures are expected to increase by 2–3°C above normal in several interior districts over the next few days.

While coastal regions, including Chennai, Puducherry, and Karaikal, may experience temperatures close to normal levels, high humidity is likely to cause discomfort. The combined effect of heat and humidity is expected to persist until April 26, making conditions challenging for voters on polling day.

With many citizens preparing to cast their votes, authorities have taken steps to ensure voter safety. Polling booths have been equipped with tents, shade arrangements, and adequate drinking water facilities. Emergency first-aid kits and ORS (salt-sugar solution) packets are also being kept ready to handle heat-related health issues.

Officials have advised elderly voters and those with health concerns to visit polling stations early in the morning, preferably between 7 AM and 10 AM, to avoid peak heat hours. Voters are also encouraged to carry water bottles and take necessary precautions while stepping out.

This weather advisory highlights the importance of staying safe while fulfilling civic duties during the ongoing election period.
