GCC Chennai Opens Admissions for Free ITI Courses; Apply Before June 30

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has invited applications for admission to its free vocational training courses offered through the GCC Industrial Training Institute (ITI) for the current academic year. Eligible candidates can submit their applications on or before June 30, 2026.

The initiative aims to equip youth with industry-relevant skills and National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) certifications, helping them secure employment and self-employment opportunities.

The GCC ITI offers six technical courses with durations ranging from one to two years. Available trades include Computer Operator and Programming Assistant (COPA), Plumber, Motor Mechanic Vehicle, Electronic Mechanic, Fitter, and Electrician.

Preference will be given to students from Chennai schools and children of GCC employees. Remaining seats will be allotted to eligible candidates from Chennai district as per government reservation norms.

Male candidates aged between 14 and 40 years can apply, while there is no upper age limit for female applicants.

The training programme includes practical industry exposure through internships lasting one to three months. Students can receive a monthly internship stipend ranging from ₹10,500 to ₹15,000, depending on the company. In addition, trainees will receive a monthly training stipend of ₹750.

Eligible students can also avail an additional ₹1,000 per month under the Tamil Pudhalvan and Puthumai Penn schemes. Other benefits include free uniforms, shoes, bicycles, bus passes, meals, and snacks.
