Heavy Rain Alert for Chennai and 13 Tamil Nadu Districts Today; IMD Forecasts Thunderstorms

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast moderate rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds in several parts of Tamil Nadu due to a trough extending from North Interior Karnataka to the Kanyakumari Sea through Rayalaseema, South Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu at an altitude of about 1.5 km.

According to the weather department, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Ranipet, Vellore, Tiruchirappalli, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Namakkal, Erode, Salem and Madurai districts are likely to receive moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph today.

The department has also predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places in The Nilgiris, Dindigul and Theni districts.

For tomorrow, moderate rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds is expected in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Namakkal, Erode, Salem, Dindigul and Madurai districts.

Residents are advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms, avoid open areas during lightning, and follow weather updates issued by the Meteorological Department.
