Residents of Royapuram in Chennai are facing serious health and traffic issues due to the incomplete storm water drain (SWD) work on Cemetery Road. The project, which has been pending for nearly two months, has left the road dug up and unusable for smooth traffic movement.

Stagnant water in the unfinished drains has resulted in foul smell and increased mosquito breeding, raising concerns among the public. The affected stretch is widely used by people travelling to Government RSRM Lying-in Hospital and Arignar Anna Park, making the situation more critical for patients, elderly residents, and daily commuters.

Due to reduced road width, heavy traffic congestion is reported during peak hours. Public transport, school buses, and ambulances are facing delays, causing inconvenience to thousands of commuters.

Residents allege that the work was halted during the election period and has not resumed properly, leading to worsening conditions. They have urged authorities to immediately complete the SWD project, clear stagnant water, and restore normal traffic flow in the area.
