Following the announcement of the Assembly election schedule by the Election Commission of India, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into effect across Tamil Nadu from the evening of March 15.

As part of the election guidelines, transporting cash without proper documents and distributing gifts to voters have been strictly prohibited. Authorities have also started removing political advertisements, banners and government achievement posters from public places.

Statues of political leaders across the state are being covered with cloth, and political graffiti on public walls is being painted over and removed. Photographs of the Chief Minister and government promotional materials have been taken down from government offices, including the Secretariat.

In addition, offices of MLAs, MPs, mayors, deputy mayors and other local body leaders have been sealed temporarily, and their official vehicles have been handed over for election duty.

Election officials have deployed flying squads, static surveillance teams and video monitoring teams in every district to monitor violations. These teams will check the movement of cash and gifts, investigate complaints and record campaign meetings and rallies.

For the upcoming election scheduled on April 23, authorities are preparing more than 75,000 polling stations across Tamil Nadu to ensure smooth and transparent voting.
