Chennai Airport Operations Hit by Rain and Strong Winds; Over 20 Flights Affected

Flight operations at Chennai Airport were disrupted on Thursday evening after sudden rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms affected aircraft movements across the city. The adverse weather conditions led to delays in more than 20 domestic and international flights, causing inconvenience to passengers.

Dark clouds gathered over Chennai and its suburban areas around 4 PM, followed by moderate rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds. The weather impacted several arriving flights, with aircraft facing difficulties during landing due to poor visibility and strong crosswinds.

Several departure services were also delayed, including flights bound for Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Visakhapatnam, Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Ranchi, and Mysuru. Airport officials confirmed that the disruption was caused by seasonal thunderstorm activity, which temporarily affected runway operations and overall flight movements.

Passengers experienced longer waiting times at terminals and inside aircraft as airlines adjusted schedules to ensure safety. Airport authorities have advised travelers to check the latest flight status with their respective airlines before proceeding to the airport.

Normal operations gradually resumed after weather conditions improved, though some flights continued to experience delays due to the earlier disruption.
