Chennai to Renovate Night Shelters Post Elections

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) will upgrade night shelters across the city after the 2026 elections, focusing on better infrastructure, hygiene, and capacity.
Around 49 shelters are currently in operation, with major improvements planned such as new electrical systems, toilets, and water facilities.
Renovation work will be carried out based on individual shelter needs, aiming to improve living conditions for the urban homeless.
