Tamil Nadu is set to experience a gradual rise in temperature, with levels expected to go more than 4°C above normal in the coming days, according to the Chennai Meteorological Department.
The increase in heat is attributed to warm air currents moving westward from the Pacific Ocean, intensifying heat over the Bay of Bengal. As a result, temperatures across Tamil Nadu are expected to climb steadily.
Currently, several parts of the state are already recording temperatures 2°C to 4°C above normal. In some areas like Vellore, temperatures have soared up to 106°F, indicating the intensifying summer conditions.
Despite dry weather prevailing across most regions, light rainfall was recorded in a few places, particularly in southern coastal districts and parts of the Western Ghats. However, these isolated showers have not significantly reduced the overall heat.
Weather forecasts indicate that there will be no major change in maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry until April 26. However, temperatures may rise slightly from the current levels, with some regions likely to see an increase of 2°C to 3°C above normal.
In Chennai, temperatures are expected to reach around 101°F, combined with high humidity levels. This could lead to significant discomfort for residents, especially during peak daytime hours.
Authorities have advised people to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight as the heatwave conditions continue to intensify across the state.
