Out of 628 nominations filed across 16 constituencies in Chennai, a total of 443 nominations have been accepted following scrutiny on Tuesday. Officials noted that the final number may see slight changes as the official figures were released late in the night.

More than 176 nominations were rejected during the process. Among the constituencies, Perambur recorded the highest number of accepted nominations at 49, while Egmore had the lowest with 19.

There was brief uncertainty regarding the nomination of Aadhav Arjuna after objections were raised by rival candidates. They alleged that certain companies in his wife’s name were not disclosed in his affidavit. However, his nomination was later cleared.

Responding to the issue, Aadhav Arjuna stated that nominations can only be rejected based on proposer-related issues and clarified that all his assets as of March 25 had been properly declared.

Similarly, the AIADMK raised objections against the nomination of Udhayanidhi Stalin in the Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni constituency, citing incomplete asset disclosure. Despite this, his nomination was also accepted.

In the districts surrounding Chennai, Tiruvallur recorded 171 accepted nominations, Chengalpattu had 238, and Kancheepuram reported 125 accepted nominations.

Overall, the scrutiny process has set the stage for a competitive electoral contest across Chennai and its neighboring districts.
