As Akshaya Tritiya draws closer, jewelry stores across Tamil Nadu are already seeing a steady flow of customers. Advance bookings are picking up quickly, and the recent dip in gold prices has only added to the excitement. Many buyers are choosing to lock in their purchases early this year, hoping to make the most of the current rates.

Akshaya Tritiya is considered one of the most auspicious days to buy valuables. It falls on the third day after Amavasya during the growing phase of the moon in the Tamil month of Chithirai. There’s a strong belief that anything bought on this day, especially gold, silver, property, or vehicles, brings lasting prosperity.

When to Buy

This year, the auspicious time begins on April 19 at 10:49 AM and continues until 7:27 AM on April 20. While the entire window is considered favorable, many people prefer shopping on the morning of April 19.

Bookings on the Rise

Across Tamil Nadu, nearly 45,000 jewelry stores including about 5,000 in Chennai have started offering advance booking options. Customers are reserving their favorite designs by paying a minimum of 25% upfront.

Offers Drawing Crowds

Jewelry shops have rolled out a range of offers to attract buyers:

- ₹1,000 off per sovereign on gold jewelry

- ₹15,000 off per carat on diamonds

- ₹3,000 off per kg on silver items

- No wastage charges on gold coins

There’s also flexibility for those booking in advance. If gold prices drop on the day, customers can buy at the lower rate. If prices go up, they can still purchase at the rate they originally booked. Old gold can also be exchanged at the current market value.

Festive Preparations in Full Swing

Shops are getting ready for the big day by bringing in over 1,000 new designs. Many stores plan to open early and stay open late to handle the expected rush.

To create a festive vibe, customers can expect a warm welcome with traditional music, decorative setups with banana and mango leaves, and even special receptions in some stores.

High Hopes This Year

Last year, Akshaya Tritiya sales in Tamil Nadu reached around ₹12,000 crore. With prices currently softer and interest running high, jewelers are hopeful that this year could be even better.

All signs point to a busy and vibrant Akshaya Tritiya, with people eager to make meaningful purchases and start something new on an auspicious note.
