Avadi Park Renamed After Martyr Major Mukund Varadarajan

The Avadi Corporation has decided to rename a 2.65-acre public park in Paruthipattu after Ashoka Chakra awardee Major Mukund Varadarajan, who was martyred while fighting terrorists in Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 25, 2014.

The park, located on Open Space Reservation (OSR) land near Kendriya Vihar-II Apartments, includes a library and a study centre. The proposal was initiated by local residents and was approved by the Avadi Corporation Council on May 25.

Residents welcomed the move, saying it is a fitting tribute to the brave soldier, who hailed from the locality. Earlier, the Tamil Nadu government had also renamed the 16-km Tambaram–Velachery Road as Major Mukund Varadarajan Salai in his honour.
