Chennai to Madurai Unreserved Special Train Announced for Election Voters - Full Schedule & Route
To facilitate smooth travel for voters during the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026, Southern Railway has announced special unreserved trains from Chennai Egmore Railway Station to key destinations including Madurai and Podanur.
A special MEMU unreserved train (No. 06161) will depart from Chennai Egmore at 9:55 PM on April 22 and reach Madurai at 8:45 AM the next day. The train will pass through major stations such as Tambaram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore Port, Chidambaram, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Tiruchirappalli, Dindigul, and Kodaikanal Road.
Additionally, another special train (No. 06179) will leave Chennai Egmore at 11:55 PM on April 22 and arrive at Podanur at 9:30 AM, covering routes via Perambur, Arakkonam, Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, and Tiruppur. Ticket booking for this service opened at 8 AM on April 22.
For return travel, a special unreserved MEMU train (No. 06162) will depart from Madurai at 3:30 PM on April 23 and reach Tambaram by 11:00 PM the same day, ensuring convenient travel after voting.
These special train services are aimed at reducing travel congestion and helping voters reach their hometowns on time to cast their votes on April 23.
