International air connectivity between Madurai and Abu Dhabi is set to resume as direct flight services restart from August 14, 2026, following a suspension of several months caused by geopolitical tensions in the Gulf region.
The resumption of the service comes after the situation in the Gulf improved, allowing airlines to restore international operations. The direct flight is expected to provide significant relief to passengers travelling between Tamil Nadu and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), especially business travellers, tourists, and the large Indian expatriate community.
According to Madurai Airport authorities, the Madurai–Abu Dhabi route will operate three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The flight from Abu Dhabi will arrive at Madurai Airport at 1:50 PM, while the return flight will depart from Madurai at 2:50 PM.
Madurai Airport currently operates 18 daily domestic flights connecting the city with major Indian destinations, including Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad. The airport also continues to operate a daily international flight to Sri Lanka.
Earlier this year, direct flights to Abu Dhabi and Dubai were suspended at the end of February due to the conflict-related situation in the Gulf region. With conditions now stabilizing, the restoration of the Abu Dhabi service is expected to improve travel convenience and strengthen air connectivity between South India and the UAE.
