The India Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert for Tamil Nadu, highlighting rising temperatures in several districts along with a heavy rain forecast starting April 30.

Heat Wave Conditions Across Tamil Nadu

Several parts of the state are experiencing intense heat, with Karur and Vellore recording up to 104°F (40°C).

Districts such as Chennai, Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Dharmapuri, Kanyakumari, Madurai, and Vellore have reported temperatures 3°C above normal, making daytime conditions extremely hot.

At the same time, light rainfall was recorded in isolated areas of Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, and Kanyakumari, offering slight relief.

Reason for Sudden Weather Change

According to IMD, a low-pressure trough in the atmosphere extending from central India to the southern region is influencing Tamil Nadu’s weather. This system is passing through Vidarbha, Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and Tamil Nadu, leading to unstable conditions.

Due to this, light to moderate rain is expected to continue in:

- Western Ghats districts
- Southern coastal regions
- Delta districts
