If you are of the view that the college students are selfish and they are just concerned about their own happy life, then you are wrong!!
The second Coronavirus infection wave has been severe and it has been causing more number of deaths everyday in Chennai. Now, many college students have turned into warriors and have been providing helping hands for the Covid-19 patients. These young students or volunteers from various Chennai colleges belong to psychology departments and have been doing social work.
At the Chennai based RGGGH, we could see these young volunteers helping the doctors and nurses in the Covid-19 ward on shifts. According to the professor Gladstone Xavier, department of social work, Loyola College it was very clear that the students were educated, young, energetic and selfless and they helped the Covid-19 patients without taking any money also.
To handle the crowd and to coordinate with the exhausted hospital staff, initial training has been provided to these students. They are now doing their best to help others. The medical staff have become so tired due to hike in the number of cases and therefore more such student volunteers are needed now. It is now revealed that recently 3 girl students belonging to MSW group in Sindhi Arts and Science College in Chennai have got associated with RGGGH to help the Covid-19 patients there.
The students from Presidency College handle night shifts and those from Loyola College handle direct as well as tele counselling of the Covid patients. This was stated by Mr. M.S. Jai Kishnan, coordinator for volunteers. He later spoke about how the logistics of shifting the patients are being handled by the students belonging to MSSW now.
Three girl students who have been volunteering said that they wanted to assist paramedics and nursing staff belonging to RGGGH. They then threw light about how they have been trained in OP admissions plus in handling ambulance connectivity and referring patients to the diagnostic centres etc. It was mentioned by Mr. John Bosco, the trainer for MSW students from Presidency College and Loyola College, said that the parents of these students must be appreciated for giving their approval.
