Is there any GST on petrol?

There is currently no GST on petrol in India, as petrol is not included under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime. Instead, it is taxed separately by both the central and state governments through central excise duty and state-specific Value Added Tax (VAT). Because each state sets its own VAT rate, petrol prices vary across different states in India.
This tax structure results in significant price differences depending on location. Although there have been discussions about bringing petrol under GST to create a more uniform pricing system, it remains outside the GST framework as of now.
