Gold and silver prices witnessed a sharp intraday fluctuation in Chennai’s retail market on Tuesday. After rising sharply in the morning, prices declined by evening.
Gold jewellery prices, which had surged by ₹3,600 per sovereign earlier in the day, fell by ₹800 in the evening. As a result, gold is now being sold at ₹14,550 per gram, down by ₹100 per gram, while the price of a sovereign (8 grams) stands at ₹1,16,400.
Silver prices also followed a similar trend. In Chennai’s retail market, silver, which had increased by ₹20 per gram in the morning, declined by ₹15 per gram by evening and is currently priced at ₹345 per gram.
Traders attributed the volatility to global market cues and intraday profit booking.
