Sabarimala Makaravilakku Pooja Held Today
The sacred Makaravilakku Pooja is being performed today at the Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple, marking one of the most important events of the pilgrimage season. The temple was opened on December 30 for the Makaravilakku rituals, and after days of purification ceremonies, the main observances are taking place today.
The Makar Sankranti special pooja and abhishekam will be conducted at 3.08 pm, followed by the ceremonial arrival of the Thiruvabharanam in the evening. During the deeparadhana at 6.30 pm, Lord Ayyappa will appear as the sacred Makara Jyothi, visible three times from Ponnambalamedu, a deeply spiritual moment for devotees.
Lakhs of pilgrims have gathered at Sabarimala and nearby areas such as Pamba and Sannidhanam to witness the divine event. Extensive arrangements, including security, food, shelter, and 1,000 special buses, have been made to ensure smooth movement of devotees.
