Tamil Nadu to Distribute Free Laptops to College Students; Scheme Launch on December 19
The Tamil Nadu government is set to launch its Free Laptop Scheme for college students, with Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurating the programme on December 19 at the Trade Centre in Nandambakkam, Chennai.
As announced earlier, the DMK government will provide 20 lakh free laptops to students across the state. In the first phase (2025–26), 10 lakh college students will receive laptops. The government has already floated tenders and approved multiple companies for the laptop procurement process.
According to officials, the distribution of the first 10 lakh laptops is expected to be completed by February 2026. The initiative aims to strengthen digital education, support online learning, and enhance technological access for students pursuing higher studies.
This major welfare programme marks a significant step by the Tamil Nadu government toward bridging the digital divide among students.
