The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an important alert regarding the rainfall situation in Tamil Nadu.
According to the IMD, a low-pressure area has formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining South Andaman Sea at around 5:30 AM yesterday due to atmospheric circulation. This system is gradually becoming more intense while moving west-northwestward.

- Ranipet
- Puducherry

Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning may occur in many areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
- Tiruvallur, Chennai, Ranipet: Heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places
- Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Vellore: Heavy rain at one or two locations

Chennai received rain in several areas yesterday including:
- Vadapalani, Nungambakkam, T. Nagar, Valluvar Kottam
IMD states that moderate rain is expected today in Chennai and suburbs.
Madurai experienced heavy downpour, leading to waterlogging in:
- Koripalayam, Simmakkal, Kochadai, Anaiyur, Periyar Bus Stand, Theppakulam
- Main roads including Tallakulam and South Gate were affected after just 30 minutes of intense rain
- Heavy rain was reported in surrounding areas including Cholavanthan, Vadipatti, Usilampatti
