Traffic Diversions Announced Around Kilambakkam Bus Terminus for Deepavali Rush

In anticipation of heavy traffic during the Deepavali holidays, the Tambaram City Police has announced traffic diversions to manage congestion near the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus (KCBT), Kilambakkam. The diversions will be in force on October 17, 18, 21, and 22, coinciding with the major festive travel days.

Departure Routes – October 17 & 18

To ease vehicle flow toward southern districts, the following temporary diversions will be implemented:

From Chennai & Avadi: Vehicles will be diverted from Poonamallee via Sriperumbudur, Tiruvannamalai, and Thirukovilur, joining GST Road for onward travel.

From Maduravoyal & Tambaram (toward GST Road): Rerouted through Sriperumbudur, Kancheepuram, Tiruvannamalai, and Thirukovilur.

From Kancheepuram to Walajapet via Otteri: Vehicles will take a diversion from Oragadam Junction via Sriperumbudur, Tiruvannamalai, and Thirukovilur to reach GST Road.

Arrival Routes – October 21 & 22

To handle the post-festival return traffic:

From Chengalpattu: Vehicles will be diverted through Walajapet, Kancheepuram, and Sriperumbudur via the Bengaluru Highway to enter Chennai.

From Singaperumal Koil: Vehicles will use the Oragadam–Sriperumbudur route via the Bengaluru Highway to reach the city.

Special Train Services

Meanwhile, the Southern Railway has announced special EMU suburban services between Tambaram and Chengalpattu, along with additional festive trains from Chennai to various destinations. Extra local trains will run at frequent intervals during the holiday period to handle the surge in passengers.
