If it`s Deepavali festival, then shopping cannot be far away!!

This has been proved once again yesterday in Chennai. Important localities like T. Nagar, Chromepet, Purasawalkam and Washermanpet in Chennai were the most preferred destinations for the residents yesterday. The crowds thronged these places.

Deepavali festival is just round the corner and Chennai based shopping localities mentioned above throbbed with festival frenzy on Sunday, 12th October.  It is worthy to note that the iconic Ranganathan Street in T. Nagar was full of people as they came here from several parts of Chennai for shopping.

The deepavali festival crowd began thronging T. Nagar from the Saturday evening itself. This was as per T. Nagar deputy commissioner of police. He spoke about how last week there were less people in T. Nagar and its nearby places due as the residents celebrated Ayudha poojai festival in their homes. Heavy influx of people was witnessed in Ranganathan Street, Pondy Bazaar etc yesterday.

To monitor the crowd, the police dept made arrangements like 8 watch towers and 155 CCTV cameras etc. For increased surveillance, additional cameras were set up in addition to 28 cameras that were in use already.

There was heavy traffic congestion on the GST Road near Chromepet in south Chennai. It must be taken into note that atleast 1000 vehicles were struck on the road.

The deepavali festival shopping picked up early in 2025 when compared to the previous years. This was mentioned by Mr. Vikrama Raja, TN Merchants Association president. He added that textile business picked up a week back and Sunday was the best of the season. He concluded that from next Friday the purchase would resume when the crackers sale would begin.
