Aadhaar card mandatory to get a new SIM card

Now Aadhaar card will be necessary to get a new SIM card. Very soon it would be mandatory for telecom service providers take fingerprints or any other biometric feature of the subscriber when he/she applies for a mobile connection. Once the fingerprint is taken, the details of the subscriber can be retrieved from the central database. This scheme was experimented in Andhra Pradesh and this yielded good results. Once the Home Ministry approves this, it will come into effect from this year end.
