Huge sale of idlis at Amma canteen – good or bad?

Among the various items supplied at Amma canteen, the simply superb idlis get sold fast. Right from the inauguration of the very first Amma canteen in February 2013, nearly 4.6 crore idlis are sold. However, the overall financial burden seems to fall on the corporation.
According to the civic bodies, the corporation faces 86 paise loss for each and every idli. As per this loss calculation, there is a huge loss of about Rs 39,00,000 in these 4.6 crore idlis.
