CM Vijay Announces ₹30 Lakh Incentive for Baranica Elangovan After Asian Games Bronze

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has congratulated athlete Baranica Elangovan after she won the bronze medal in women`s pole vault at the Asian Games in Japan. The Chief Minister also announced a ₹30 lakh cash incentive in recognition of her achievement.

Vijay said Baranica had brought recognition to Tamil Nadu and India through her hard work, dedication and perseverance. He said her achievement would motivate other sportspersons who are working towards their goals.

₹30 Lakh Cash Incentive for Baranica Elangovan

The Tamil Nadu government will provide ₹30 lakh to Baranica Elangovan through the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority as recognition for her bronze-medal performance at the Asian Games.

The Chief Minister said Baranica`s success would provide new confidence and motivation to athletes who continue to work hard to achieve their sporting ambitions.

Aadhav Arjuna Congratulates Baranica

Sports Development Minister Aadhav Arjuna also congratulated Baranica on her achievement.

He said Baranica had created a landmark by becoming the first Indian athlete to win an Asian Games medal in the women`s pole vault event.

According to the Minister, the ₹30 lakh incentive is being provided to athletes winning bronze medals at the Asian Games as part of the State government`s sports support measures.

Baranica`s National Record

Baranica Elangovan had earlier made headlines by setting a national record of 4.22 metres in the women`s pole vault at the National Indoor Athletics Championships in March 2026.

Her selection for India`s 2026 Asian Games athletics squad recognised her strong performances in the event.

The athlete`s latest Asian Games achievement has brought further attention to Tamil Nadu`s athletics talent and the State`s efforts to support sportspersons.

Tamil Nadu Government Support for Athletes

Aadhav Arjuna said the achievements of Tamil Nadu sportspersons through sustained effort and dedication were encouraging young people across the State.

He added that the Tamil Nadu government would continue extending support to athletes pursuing their sporting ambitions.
