Free Bus Travel for Women: Vetri Payanam Scheme Begins Tomorrow

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay will launch the Vetri Payanam scheme in Chennai tomorrow (October 2), expanding the existing free bus travel facility for women.

At present, women can travel free of cost on ordinary government buses operating in cities and urban areas. Under the expanded Vetri Payanam scheme, the facility will also cover Express, LSS and Deluxe buses operating in metropolitan and urban areas, Mofussil Ordinary buses, and Ghat Ordinary buses operating on hill routes beyond 40 km.

Chief Minister Vijay had announced the expansion of the scheme in the State Assembly under Rule 110 last month.

The expanded Vetri Payanam scheme will be launched tomorrow, October 2, on Gandhi Jayanti. A total of 12,692 buses operated by the state`s seven government transport corporations have been brought under the scheme.
