Tamil Nadu Weather Alert: Heavy Rain Expected in Chennai and Other Districts

The Northeast Monsoon continues to bring rainfall across Tamil Nadu, with a low-pressure area over Comorin and adjoining southern Tamil Nadu raising the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain over the coming days. The system is expected to intensify, with the potential to develop into Cyclone Arnab by October 26, according to the forecast in the report.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram on Saturday.

The Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Kanniyakumari and the Ghat areas of Tirunelveli are also likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.

On Sunday, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Perambalur, Ariyalur and Tiruchirappalli districts.

On Monday, the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram and Pudukkottai may experience heavy to very heavy rain. Parts of the Cauvery delta and southern Tamil Nadu are also likely to receive rainfall.

Moderate rain is expected across several other parts of the state. Rainfall may gradually decrease later in the week, with light rain likely over southern and south coastal Tamil Nadu.

Although the weather system could intensify into Cyclone Arnab, its actual path and impact on Tamil Nadu will depend on further meteorological developments. Residents are advised to follow official weather updates from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
