The International Toilet Festival 3.0 is underway, and this year’s theme is more urgent than ever – “Mapping Open Defecation and Urination.” The citizens of Chennai are being called upon to take part in a unique civic campaign that directly addresses the sanitation issues plaguing the city’s public spaces.
The initiative, which runs from June 1 to July 5, is a public-driven mapping effort to identify locations where open defecation and urination occur. This data will then be used by urban planners, NGOs, and government bodies to prioritize sanitation infrastructure and public toilet facilities in critical areas.
Organizers are urging residents to participate actively by reporting and tagging such locations through an interactive map. The process is simple: if you see a site where public urination or defecation is happening, mark it online and contribute to a cleaner, more hygienic Chennai.
