Delhi High Court: Ilaiyaraaja Cannot Claim Rights Over Songs from 134 Films

The Delhi High Court has ruled that legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja cannot claim ownership rights over songs from 134 films.

The order was passed in a copyright-related case filed by Saregama India, involving songs from films including Annakili, 16 Vayathinile, Kavikkuyil, Bharathi, Pallavi Anu Pallavi, Mullum Malarum, Raja Paarvai, Nettrikann, and Kalyanaraman.

The court declined to cancel the interim order that had been issued in favour of Saregama in the copyright dispute. The case was related to the rights over the music and songs from these films.

Ilaiyaraaja’s legal team, including senior advocate Swathi Sukumar and other lawyers, represented him in the proceedings.

The Delhi High Court’s decision allows the earlier interim protection granted to Saregama to continue in the ongoing copyright matter.
