Chennai Integrated Stormwater Drain Project Reaches 99.89% Completion

The Integrated Stormwater Drain Project being implemented in Chennai with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank has reached 99.89% completion, according to the Greater Chennai Corporation. Details were presented at a review meeting on Northeast Monsoon preparedness in the presence of Mayor R. Priya. The meeting also discussed the progress of the project being carried out across six zones—Tiruvottiyur, Manali, Madhavaram, Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar, Ambattur and Anna Nagar.

The drainage infrastructure works are being carried out over 652.11 km at an estimated cost of ₹3,094.85 crore. As of October 5, 2026, work covering 651.42 km has been completed. So far, ₹2,907.93 crore has been spent, accounting for 94.01% of the total allocated funds. The works have been fully completed in Zones 1, 2, 3 and 8.

Only minor works remain in Zones 6 and 7. While 99.67% of the work has been completed in these zones, the remaining 0.69 km of drainage work is expected to be completed by October 15, 2026.
