Chennai Rotarian Rtn. Dhanasekar Donates Hair to Support Cancer Patients

Turning a personal choice into an act of service, Rtn. Dhanasekar has donated his long hair to The Cherian Foundation’s “Gift Hair, Gift Confidence” initiative, which supports underprivileged cancer patients experiencing hair loss during treatment.

The hair donation was carried out at Bespoke New-Age Barbershop, where his hair was cut and collected for the campaign. The donated hair will support the making and distribution of natural human-hair wigs for cancer patients.

Supporting Cancer Patients Through Hair Donation

Rtn. Dhanasekar serves as the Membership Chair of the Rotary Club of Chennai Sun City (RCCSC) and Coordinator of Project Dhanvanthri under Rotary International District 3234.

By donating hair that he had grown over time, he has highlighted a simple way individuals can contribute to the well-being of people undergoing cancer treatment. Natural-hair wigs can provide comfort and help patients cope with treatment-related hair loss.

Encouraging Men to Donate Hair

The initiative also highlights that hair donation is not limited to women. Men who have grown their hair to the required length can also contribute, subject to the donation guidelines of the receiving organisation.

Rtn. Dhanasekar’s gesture may encourage more people, including men, to consider hair donation as a meaningful form of community service.

Hair Donation Guidelines

People interested in donating hair to The Cherian Foundation are advised to follow its published requirements, including:

  • - Donate natural hair without permanent or semi-permanent dye.

  • - Hair should be more than 10 inches long.

  • - Wash the hair and ensure it is completely dry before cutting.

  • - Secure the hair in a ponytail or braid using rubber bands.

  • - Cut the hair above the top rubber band and keep the donated hair bundled.

  • - Package the hair as instructed by the Foundation and complete the required consent form.

Hair swept from the floor or hair that is shaved without being properly secured cannot be used for wig-making.

Those interested in donating hair can contact The Cherian Foundation for the consent form and detailed donation instructions.

Rtn. Dhanasekar’s contribution demonstrates how a simple personal decision can become a meaningful act of support for cancer patients, helping them face a challenging period with greater confidence.
