Cyclone Gaja lashed Tamil Nadu with heavy rains during the last 24 hours, but the state capital of Chennai escaped the fury of the storm. The city only managed with light showers, with few intense spells over some isolated pockets.

The severe cyclonic storm Gaja over southwest Bay of Bengal had finally made a landfall on Tamil Nadu coast just after the midnight. The system has crossed the coast between Nagapattinam and Vedaranniyam.

Cyclone Gaja even after crossing the land is still a severe Cyclone and is now right over Pudukottai a rare event indeed. Enitre town is getting cyclonic winds gusting to 100 km/hr. Nagai, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur and Karaikkal.

The severe cyclonic storm Gaja crossed the Tamil Nadu coast between Nagapattinam and nearby Vedaranniyam early Friday with wind speed gusting up to 120 kmph.
