Chennai to get light rains on the New Year day

The North-East monsoon would be ending on Tuesday, 31st December!!

It is now brought out by some weather experts that this NE monsoon would continue in the early morning on 2nd January 2020 as the easterlies are still favourable. Across the coastal regions of TN, there might be light rains on 1st and 2nd January. The partygoers have been asked to have an umbrella with them if they stay out past midnight for celebrating the New Year.

It was later revealed by Mr Puviarasan, director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, RMC, Chennai, that during the early morning`s moisture comes and it makes it favourable for the formation of clouds. The point here is during the NE monsoons Chennai gets rains in the early mornings.

Light to moderate easterlies or north-easterlies prevails over the region in low tropospheric levels. This has been as per the regional weather inference. The condition of the sky is likely to be cloudy and light rain is likely to occur in some areas.

In the next 48 hours, in the Chennai city, the maximum temperature is likely to be around 30 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is likely to be around 23 degrees Celsius. This was according to IMD prediction.

On the Sunday evening in Chennai, there were intermittent sharp spells of rains and this surprised many Chennai residents. Till the early morning on Monday, the rains continued are known. In Chennai, Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded 30.6 mm rains and 11.6 mm rains respectively. The north-east monsoon concludes by the end of December and it is now said that Chennai has recorded 633.9 mm of rains against an average of 759.8 mm leaving a deficit of 17 percent.

The state of TN had recorded 452.3 mm rainfall against an average of 444.8 mm of 2% surplus. The strong and favourable easterlies played their part in the rains in the NE monsoon season in Chennai city. Chennai did not experience any weather system since the onset of monsoon. It is now revealed that the light rain forecast would bring down the deficit by one or two percent.
