Rail Card instead of season ticket in the suburban trains
Railway Department has decided to introduce Rail Card instead of season ticket in the suburban trains. According to the plan, there will be three types of Rail Cards - gold, silver and platinum.While the silver card will be for monthly pass holders, gold cards will be issued to passengers opting for six-month duration pass.

Railway travel insurance premium at 92 paisa
A travel insurance cover of upto Rs 10 lakh can be availed while a booking train ticket online by paying 92 paisa from August 31.Willing person booking a train ticket through the IRCTC website will be able opt for travel insurance cover for a premium of 92 paise only from August 31

Change in composition of trains
One General Second Class coach in Train No.12641 / 12642 Kanniyakumari - Hazrat Nizamuddin - Kanniyakumari Thirukkural bi-weekly express trains will be replaced by one AC 2-tier coach ex. Kanniyakumari from 24.08.2016 and ex. Hazrat Nizamuddin from 27.08.2016.

New Jalpaiguri - Chennai Central weekly express trains will be permanently augmented
Train No.22611 / 22612 Chennai Central - New Jalpaiguri - Chennai Central weekly express trains will be permanently augmented by two Sleeper Class coaches ex. Chennai Central from 31.08.2016 and ex. New Jalpaiguri from 02.09.2016.

Rs. 15 masala dosa now available at Chennai Central
Now, a masala dosa at Chennai Central station costs only Rs. 15. This will be served with 80 gms of vegetable and sambar. The new initiative has been brought out by the canteen run by the Railways, the Jan Aahar.

Train No.82601 Chennai Egmore - Tirunelveli Suvidha special train will leave Chennai Egmore at 21.05 hrs. on 02nd September, 2016 and reach Tirunelveli at 10.45 hrs. the next day.

Continuation of experimental stoppages for trains
Experimental stoppages were provided for Navjivan express at Sulurpeta, Pinakini express at Nayudupeta and Chennai - Mysore - Chennai Shatabdi express at Katpadi.The stoppages have been extended and will continue until further advice.
