IRCTC to distribute free meals
To facilitate rail passengers to get branded food during journey, IRCTC launched e-catering service during January, 2015.This system allows passengers to book food of their choice either from empanelled branded players from the market or from the Food Plaza in railway station through IRCTC portal.

Integrated cross sectoral EMU services extended
Integrated cross sectoral EMU services from Tiruttani - Chennai Beach & Sulurpeta - Chennai Beach sections to Chennai Beach - Velachery MRTS section and vice versa were introduced as a trial measure for three weeks from 25.07.2016 to 13.08.2016.

Railway Official: Pamban Bridge under the sea
The Chief Engineer of Southern Railway, Mr. Suyambulingam, informed that when the Sethu Canal Projects is taken up, Railways will take the responsibility for exploring whether to construct the Pamban Bridge above the sea level or under the sea.

Trains to southern districts of TN to run at faster speed
As the works to lay dual routes along Chennai to Madurai is now completed, trains in southern districts will run at increased speed. This will lead to reduced travel time by one hour.
