Infrastructural problems have delayed the Airports Authority of Indias (AAI) plans to expand the Chennai Airport. When airlines applied for schedules this year, officials were forced to deny airlines no less than 10 slots for flights, which were divided into 5 for landing and 5 for take off.

The second runway of the Chennai Airport is not fully functional despite spending up to Rs. 2,200 crore on a modernization drive. Work on installing lights and an instrument landing system (ILS) has not been completed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

Traffic police and the State Transport Authority have said the they will launch a drive to ensure that auto rickshaws use the meter. This will follow a series of unsuccessful initiatives to correct the auto tariffs in the city.

As a move to bring a solution to the parking woes of Chennai people, the Chennai corporation has come up with plans to allow street parking for a fee. Along all the 471 bus routes, the government officials will be making demarcation of parking spaces, say officials.

Especially from December following the rains, there has been increasing instances of roads caving in Chennai Metro City. The major point is supposed to be the faulty sewer pipes running underneath.

The relief fund will be transferred to over 14 lakh families today and the amount is likely to reach their respective bank accounts tomorrow. Remaining families will receive the amount on 11th of this month, said Chief Minister, J. Jayalalitha.
