Notices issued to 2702 Chennai city government employees failing to participate in election training

With the elections for the Tamil Nadu state Legislative Assembly to be conducted in a single phase on 16th May, the first phase of training for government employees picked to assist in the election activates was conducted.
However, 2702 government employees in Chennai district failed to participate in this training.
So, the Election Administration has issued notices to these 2702 employees asking for explanations for their failure to attend the training.
23000 government employees have been selected to assist in the election activates in the 16 constituencies in Chennai district.
Out of this 15000 employees belong to the various departments of Chennai City corporations to function as polling booth officials. They were given training in 16 centres in the city last week.
However, there were 2707 employees among those invited for training failed to attend the training. So, the district election administration has issued notices to these 2702 employees asking for explanations for their failure to attend the training.
Further, some close acquaintances of those in senior positions in the Chennai City Corporation have met them in person asking for exemption from the election activities. More than 2000 such applications have been received at the District Election Office.
It appears that the District Election official P Sindaramohan had warned that stringent action will be taken on those who had provided invalid reasons or if they get any recommendations from any senior Chennai Corporation officials.
Still, the information is gathered that lots of employees are approaching the election office with medical certificates or marriage invitations requesting the exemption from election postings.
District Election Official P Sundaramohan informed that after the 1st phase of training, notices have been sent to 2707 employees. Arrangements have been made for a second course of the training.
