Rajan Eye Care Hospital has been conducting a study on Refractive Errors Education and Prevention (REEP) from 2008 onwards. So far, they have screened nearly 3.5 lakh children up to 12 years in and around Chennai. The findings reveal that children studying in Elite schools are more prone to wearing spectacles than children of Corporation school.
Reason for this is the lack of outdoor play and sunlight for the elite school children and increased exposure in gadget usage. Addiction to TV, video games and mobile phones lead to vision problems. The number of children wearing spectacles is increasing alarmingly. Along with myopia, dryness in the eyes is also becoming a common problem among children.
