Why forgiving the person who has betrayed us could be actually good for us?

Dwelling on betrayal, aggression etc instead of letting it fade into memory is never easy!!

People might hurt us in several ways. Majority of us feel highly angered and irritated when someone close to us does something which we cannot accept easily. We might not be able to get over it even if our immediate anger goes away.

The bitter truth is that not being able to forgive a person who has betrayed us might not be good and it might even be harmful for us in the long run. It is believed that forgiving your partner would improve emotional, physical as well as psychological wellness. Forgiving a person is easier said than done just like so many other things in life.

Various benefits which we could get by forgiving a person are

Forgiving helps in maintaining peace:
It is true that no relationships in the world are perfect and there would be some issues in every relationship. There are times when you would not be able to forgive what your best friend or your partner did. Even if there is a remote chance of forgiving the other person for his or her mistake it must be considered. By forgiving your partner or best friend etc, you would be able to get peace and it would be good for the mental health plus for the relationship.

Forgiving improves other relationships too:
It must be noted that not forgiving the other person in a relationship would also affect the other relationships too with others. Point is that grudges and angry feelings would overflow in other relationships also. By being compassionate, it would be possible to increase kindness and feelings of connection to all persons.

Forgiving frees us:
By forgiving it would be possible to reclaim the power. Truth is that the energy that a person has invested in another person or situation is free to be transferred to someone or something beneficial to your growth etc. It is worthy to mention here that liberating yourself might make us see the person or situation in a different perspective.

Forgiving eliminates anxiety:
By forgiving your partner or best friend for what they have done would eliminate our nervousness and uncertainty etc. It is true that by not forgiving our mind we would start making assumptions and draw conclusions etc. Anxiety would not be there when a person forgives.

How to forgive:
Though it might be difficult to forgive someone who has betrayed us, it could be done by a few exercises and with the right kind of mindset. We must keep in mind that forgiveness is done to severe our emotional attachment to what has happened. Moving forward in life is important. We cocould forgive a person by journaling, prayer, meditation etc.
