The external Affairs Ministry and E-Governance Service Centre have joined to open more than 1,00,000 offices to provide passport related services in many villages.
As a test project, 15 service centres have been selected in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand where this service will be started in the 2nd week of March. This will be extended throughout the country by end March.
This step would be useful especially for the people who are not versatile with the latest technology. E-governance service centre is an extension of the Indian Government�s Department of Electronics and Technology.
The Government of India granted approval for starting these centres during September, 2006. Agriculture, healthcare, Banking services, Pension and other public related services will be handled. Passport related services have now been added. The government has facilitated �on-line� filling of application forms and payment and made it compulsory.
The service charge for these facilities is fixed at Rs. 100/-.. The service centres will finction during all 7 days of the week.
