Amma canteens in Chennai likely to be serve dinner from Friday.
In May last year, the state government announced that chapatti and dal would be served as dinner at Amma canteens for Rs 3. However, the proposal was postponed after a delay in procuring machines to make chapatti.
A senior corporation official said trial runs of the machine had been completed. "We have installed chapatti-making machines in centralised kitchens across 15 zones. We are expecting to start serving dinner from Friday."
Every day, more than 4 lakh chapattis made at the 15 centralised kitchens will be served at 200 canteens from 6pm to 9pm.
