How to get lost passport?

Approach - The Regional Passport Offices
Required documents - Police verification report, Copy of the old (or lost) passport – with application on Rs. 20/- stamp paper
Charges - Rs. 4,000/-
Time Limit - If the passport is lost in India, it will be redeemed within 35 to 40 days. Otherwise, it might take more time.
Procedure - Make a complaint at the nearest Police Station about the loss of passport. Obtain the letter that it could not be retrieved. Make an application on a Rs. 20/- stamp paper. Get attestation from a notary public. Apply to the regional passport office. They will undertake the checking and verification and then send a duplicate passport.
