The All India Bank Employees` Association under the aegis of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has called for two-day nationwide strike from Monday. Around 6,000 officials and employees of 250 branches of 14 nationalized banks across the district will take part in the two-day nationwide strike.

The strike is likely to affect the cheque clearance system, which is conducted by the State Bank of India (SBI). The SBI clears around 35,000 cheques per day from 83 banks across the district valued at around Rs 300 crore. Besides, the banking transactions amounting to Rs 600 crore from all the banks are likely to be affected.

The nationalized banks, which will take part in the strike include the State Bank of India (60 branches in the district), Bank of Maharashtra (70 branches), Bank of Baroda (20 branches), Bank of India (15 branches), Dena Bank (31), Central Bank of India (12), Punjab National Bank (7), Indian Bank (5), etc.

On December 18 last year, the employees of the nationalized banks had observed a day-long nationwide strike seeking immediate revision of their salaries and withdrawal of proposed reforms in the banking sectors in favor of foreign banks. The strike had affected business transactions close to Rs 500 crore across the district.
